Christ Church is an Evangelical Charismatic Anglican Parish situated in Wanganui.

The first church was founded by early Church Missionary Society missionary Richard Taylor.  Taylor was also responsible for assisting in the translation of the Treaty of Waitangi.  Richard Taylor was resident across the Whanganui River at the Maori Mission of Putiki.  He crossed the river to take services among the early settlers on the Western shores of the Whanganui River.

The present Christ Church is the third church building, originally intended to be the Sunday School for the planned Cathedral.  Wanganui fell on hard times, bypassed by the central railroad and State Highway 1 and losing the university to Palmerston North.  The cathedral was never built.  Growing during the early days of European settlement when land transport was limited to horse and cart, Wanganui developed a number of small churches within easy walking distance of its residents.  Wanganui has 10 Anglican churches.  Over time these have coalesced into four parishes.  Christ Church Parish has four churches.  The main church is Christ Church at which the central administration centre Richard Taylor House is situated.  St Laurence's (currently in recess) is situated in the suburb of Aramoho.  St Chad's is found in the affluent area of St John's Hill and St Oswald's is found 10km out of town at Westmere on the road to New Plymouth.

Styles of worship vary considerably throughout the parish.  At Christ Church there is a particular emphasis on youth and families and the service is non traditional.  St Chad's, situated on St John's Hill leans towards a more traditional service.  St Oswald's, situated among lifestyle block owners is a mix of traditional and non traditional.

We believe that the only effective work in this world is that which is initiated by God and we are seeking to be more effective in following his ways and his leading.
